CENOTES

The Yucatán Peninsula is known for its underground rivers and caves called cenotes. We can qualify them as underground natural wells. Their geological formation dates back to the impact of the meteorite some 66 million years ago which, equivalent to "several billion times that of the Hiroshima bomb", caused the formation of the Chicxulub crater and the disappearance of the dinosaurs by a chain of subsequent cataclysms. With over 10,000 in the Yucatan Peninsula, there are enough cenotes in the region to overwhelm any traveler.

* For an optimal experience during your visits to the cenotes, we strongly suggest that you be equipped with water shoes, a diving mask and a towel. Entrance is in cash only. *
